$2.15 MILLION: International Arts funding announced

Creative Australia has revealed the latest recipients of its international programs funding, allocating $2.15 million to support 71 diverse projects across various artistic disciplines. This investment aims to facilitate Australian artists and creative workers in engaging with and presenting their work to international audiences.

The funding, distributed through the International Travel Fund, International Engagement Fund, and International Touring and Presentation Fund, covers a wide range of art forms. These include community arts and cultural development, dance, emerging and experimental arts, First Nations arts and culture, literature, multi-artform projects, visual arts, and theatre.

Alice Nash, Executive Director of Arts Investment at Creative Australia, emphasised the importance of this funding in promoting Australian culture globally. "We want to ensure Australian culture and creativity is recognized globally for its innovation, complexity and diversity," she said, adding that this investment aligns with the Australian Government's National Cultural Policy Revive, aiming to connect Australian stories with audiences both domestically and internationally.

Notable projects receiving support include:

  • Blakdance, a First Nations contemporary dance organisation, will attend Tanzmesse in Dusseldorf, Germany - the largest international gathering for professional contemporary dance.
  • JOLT Arts will develop works through cross-cultural collaboration at Supernatural Deluxe, an arts space located on the grounds of an 18th-century Samurai lodge in Japan.
  • A writer's exchange program between OzAsia Festival and Singapore Writers Festival.

This announcement follows Music Australia's recent unveiling of the first recipients of its Export Development Fund, which supports international pathways for professionals in the contemporary music sector.

The diverse range of projects funded reflects Creative Australia's commitment to showcasing the breadth and depth of Australian artistic talent on the global stage. By facilitating international engagement and cultural exchange, this investment aims to enhance the visibility and impact of Australian arts worldwide.
